Acoustic guitar & electronic ambient

Erik Averdal is a guitarist and ambient musician who has played guitar since the age of fourteen. He is particularly drawn to open tunings and low-tuned guitars, exploring how a different tuning changes the relationship between the strings and the possibilities of a piece.

His work brings acoustic guitar playing together with broad synthesizer textures. Self-recorded samples become musical material alongside the instruments, adding another layer to the process. He also experiments with sending guitar signals through synthesizers and unusual effects, listening for ways to reshape the original sound and let it suggest new ideas.

The music ranges from intimate guitar pieces to electronic ambient. Landscapes in Norway and Iceland provide inspiration, while much of his current music takes shape during his stays in Norway. These impressions sit alongside the practical work of playing, recording and processing sound: a guitar part, a sampled detail or a sustained synthesizer texture can become the starting point for a piece.

The Last Warm Days | Gentle Fingerstyle Guitar | Erik Averdal

A quiet and tender fingerstyle piece played on a Lowden G9C during the last warm days of the season. Softly plucked notes unfold at an unhurried pace, surrounded by the natural sounds of the place, including an apple falling from a nearby tree.
